About Matt Brockman Trumpet
Despite the many hats worn by Matt Brockman, the trumpet remains his one and enduring passion. A highly accomplished audio/video producer, entrepreneur, and author, he is perhaps best known as a trumpet player and instructor.
A quick look at Matt’s impressive record of accomplishments showcases his affinity and passion for the instrument. A member of the United States Army Band, he has played professionally alongside some of the most respected luminaries in the music world.
Among the notable individuals and groups Matt has recorded and performed with are TwoSetViolin, Christopher Bill, Seb Skelly, Trent Hamilton, and Ska Tune Network.
Matt is quick to acknowledge the crucial role his instructors have played in honing his craft. He has studied under Chris Coletti of Canadian Brass, Joe Mosello of the Maynard Ferguson Band, Peter Bond of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and Tom Boulton of the New York Philharmonic, among others.
Matt’s involvement with the trumpet goes beyond that of a performer and artist. He is also an established educator in his own right, as well as a passionate advocate for the instrument.
Matt is the founder and host of the virtual workshop/masterclass series Trumpet Legends. The workshop has featured some of the most renowned trumpet players around the world, including Wayne Bergeron, Sergei Nakariakov, Charlie Porter, Allen Vizzutti, Chris Martin, Brandon Ridenour, Gabor Tarkovi, Sergei Nakariakov, and many others.
Matt also founded Trumpet Mastery, a coaching program that helps hobbyist trumpet players achieve the next stage in their musical development. The largest and most successful online trumpet education business in the world, Matt’s company crossed over $3 million in contract revenues by the time he was 28 years old.
These accomplishments alone would be impressive for anyone of Matt’s age. However, he is also an accomplished author in the music education sphere, having written the books Trumpet Tone Builders and The Fearless Performer.
Entrepreneurial Success
For most people who know Matt Brockman, the trumpet is inextricably tied in with his name. However, his success goes beyond his affiliation with the instrument, albeit in a related field. He has also made his mark in the business education sector, as the COO of Passion Builders Online.
Passion Builders Online is a consulting company that supports music educators in their quest to start and scale their businesses. To date, the firm has helped over 700 entrepreneurs achieve the next stage of growth and development in their respective ventures.
Passion Builders Online was such a huge success that it exceeded the $1 million mark through the online sales funnel builder, ClickFunnels, by the time Matt was 27. Matt’s work with Passion Builders Online helped the company earn a coveted spot in the Two Comma Club, a highly respected community for online entrepreneurs. Matt also won a Two Comma Club Award through Trumpet Mastery.
Musical Accomplishments
Matt has amassed an impressive list of musical accomplishments throughout his career, showcasing his talent and dedication well beyond his years. In May 2017, while still a junior trumpet player at Ithaca College, he participated in an unforgettable performance at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in New York City.
Performing on the same stage that was once graced by such musical legends as Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, and Joshua Bell was quite an honor, to say the least, especially given Matt’s young age. Even today, he looks back on this event as one of the most significant milestones of his music career.
In December 2020, Matt was again involved in a memorable project hosted by the Ithaca College’s School of Music. The event brought together nearly 300 student musicians and vocalists from across the country in a virtual performance of “Amazing Grace.”
The artists’ individual performances were recorded as part of a video tribute to those affected by COVID-19. The event organizers hoped that this gesture would bring comfort to those facing challenges and difficulties during the holiday season.
Matt Brockman was already an alumnus of Ithaca College at the time and was serving as a musician in the U.S. Army. Nevertheless, he volunteered to assemble the hundreds of individual recordings into a seamless and moving final product.
Matt had some experience developing virtual performances as a hobby when he took on the project. Therefore, he eagerly took on the challenge of handling every stage of the video production process, from syncing audio and video to storyboarding the flow of the piece.
However, despite Matt’s knowledge and experience, the job turned out to be much more daunting than he expected. He had to analyze every section of the score meticulously, trying to figure out who was playing when. Editing alone took him a full week of intense work.
Nevertheless, Matt persevered, drawing inspiration from the group’s collective passion and hard work. The end result was a breathtakingly beautiful performance that soothed and uplifted people during a tremendously troubled time.
In January 2021, Matt again assisted Ithaca College in its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Concert. To adapt the in-person event for a virtual audience, he partnered with concert director Baruch Whitehead to produce the video, skillfully combining past concert footage, new virtual performances, and powerful visuals.
By most accounts, Matt’s work was instrumental in transforming the event into a meaningful and accessible experience. With his creativity, technical skill, and dedication, he will undoubtedly continue being an essential force in bringing powerful musical projects to life.
